Spirit of the West
The Whisky Coast presents Spirit of the West, a spectacular weekend event on Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th May 2009 in the stunning grounds of Inveraray Castle, Argyll. Join us in celebrating Scotland's West Coast Whisky and the rich culture and dramatic scenery in which it is created.
Experience the tastes, sights and sounds of the West in themed marquees, including whisky, food and drink, music and drama, heritage and culture and arts and crafts - suitable for all the family. Capture the true magic of the nation's water of life in the Whisky Coast Marquee. Over 18s can savour the flavour with nosings & tastings of peaty and smoky golds and take part in one of 12 whisky masterclasses with industry figures. Whether novice or enthusiast, this is a unique opportunity to meet 16 world famous West Coast whisky distillers including Springbank & Glengyle from Campbeltown, Isle of Arran, all eight distilleries from the Isle of Islay including Ardbeg, Bowmore, Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain, Caol Ila, Kilchoman, Lagavulin and Laphroaig, Isle of Jura, Oban, Tobermory from the Isle of Mull, Ben Nevis from Fort William and Talisker from the Isle of Skye.
The Red Hot Chilli Pipers will raise everyone's spirits at the event opening on the Saturday and celebrity chef Nick Nairn joins us on Sunday 17th May in the food & drink marquee to cook up dishes with a whisky twist. Food from Argyll will bring unique flavours from the west under one roof with meats, seafood, confectionery, bakery, wines and beers from high quality, local & fresh suppliers.
All this and an amazing cultural entertainment line up with trails and tales of whisky's turbulent past, performances by whisky folk singer Robin Laing, the Argyll Homecoming Gaelic Choir, the golden voice of Islay, Norma Munro, pipes and drums tribal group Clann an Drumma, a range of family outdoor entertainment and much much more.
