North Carrick Burns Celebrations
Join in a celebration of North Carrick's connections with Robert Burns, his parents and friends. Robert Burns' parents met and married in Maybole, ancient capital of Carrick. The Bard attended school in Kirkoswald and the main character in Tam O'Shanter was based on the owner of a farm at Maidens.
In tune with the area's Burns heritage, Maybole is set to host an exciting weekend celebrating the bard's life and work. Internationally renowned actor, author and director John Cairney will come to Maybole on Friday October 30th and will present 'A Burns Experience' from 7:30pm at the Town Hall. The following day at 2pm, Cairney will showcase a brand new production written by himself called 'The Boyhood of Burns', in the same venue performed by pupils from schools across Carrick's ancient capital.
Thanks to funding from EventScotland and South Ayrshire Council this will be a truly unique event. Locally, members of Maybole Community Council, Maybole Community Association, Maybole Historical Society and Maybole St Crispin Burns Club as well as staff at the four Maybole schools are working together to put on the events. In addition, a bust of Robert Burns has been commissioned and will be unveiled that weekend.
