Helensburgh and Lomond Highland Games
The Helensburgh & Lomond Highland Games (HLG) was re-inaugurated after over 35 years in 2008 by a small core of dedicated local people to bring back to Helensburgh a part of the Highland culture which had been lost. Helensburgh is the Gateway into Argyll and just 5 miles from Loch Lomond so it was felt we needed to give visitors to Helensburgh & Lomond area a chance to enjoy Highland Games and Come Home to a wonderful part of Scotland.
There is a full itinerary of Highland heavy events which includes lifting the huge Maglashon stone. There is a cross country as well as a hill race which last year the athletes' said was one of the best they had taken part in. 90 mtr and 35 ½ mtr races.
There is also Highland dancing and Pipe Bands and a 'Tribal' group Clann-an-Drumma who are fantastic. For the children and youth there is children's entertainment with a bouncy castle, paintballer and footballer court's. Pillow fight and tip the bucket competitions and an archery club attraction. Army and sea cadet challenge cup. For the older folk, a beer keg carry test.
We have 36 stalls in 'Highland Way',' kids Corner',' Food Court' and 'Sports Corner' covering everything from clothing, food, local clubs and Clan stalls. Our Games are a springboard to open up Highland and other sport to all members of our community and further afield and those with special needs. Helensburgh is the place to be on the 14th June 2009 , Open parade at 12 noon. Gates open from 10 with the closing of the games at 5pm.
