East Renfrewshire St Andrew's Day Festival

This new festival in East Renfrewshire will involve local musicians and internationally renowned Scottish bands performing music and rhythms which explore our linked heritage with other Celtic countries. Other events include a ceilidh, family fun day with storytelling and traditional Scottish fayre, and a winter festival day marking the end of Homecoming Scotland 2009.

St Andrews Day Festival - Programme

Thursday 26th November
Live music to kick start the St Andrews Day Festival featuring top-class local bands.

Friday 27th November (Doors open 8pm)
Celebration of Traditional music in Carmichael Hall. A lively evening of music and dance including the East Renfrewshire schools' Folk group, The Duplets and Findlay Napier and the Barroom Mountaineers.

Saturday 28th November - Family Fun Day at Eastwood Park Theatre

Carmichael Hall: Hopscotch Theatre Company present 'Tam O'Shanter' 11am Tickets £5/£3 conc.Face painting and free art workshops in gallery 11am - 3pm FREE
Children aged 3years and upwards can join in the fun with our face painter and drop in art workshop. Participants will make a large scale saltire from collage and design their own family tartan.

Storytelling in gallery 11am - 3pm FREE
Scottish stories and stories of home. Storyteller Wendy Woolfson will entertain young and old alike with her traditional Scottish Stories and folktales

Sunday 29th November - St Andrews Winter Festival - Eastwood Park
The festival will see a wide range of activities and entertainment for all to celebrate the launch of the festive season and is free to all! Santa's Grotto will see 'Santa' giving out presents. A winter atmosphere will be created by having a ski slope in the park for all to enjoy! Live music and children's entertainment will be on show. In the main hall we will have a host of arts and crafts on sale from some of our local and surround businesses in order to visitors to buy something unique for Christmas presents! A farmers market will offer Scottish produce to tantalise the taste buds and warm the heart. There really will be something for everyone!

Monday 30th November - St Andrew's Day schools programme. Cate Inglis, Cultural Co-ordinator for Visual Arts will run a training day for East Renfrewshire primary and nursery school teachers on Monday 26th October 2009. The day will explore the theme of the relic box as a means of telling the story of St Andrew and looking at different aspects of his life. This will provide staff with the means to deliver a St Andrews dap art project with their class. Art work will be displayed in schools on Monday 30th November and parents will be invited to join pupils in school to participate in St Andrews day activities.
