Clan Cameron Gathering
From 30th July until 2nd August, 2009, the Clan Cameron are holding a Homecoming Gathering at Achnacarry Castle, Spean Bridge - the home of the Clan Chief, Donald Angus Cameron of Lochiel. This promises to be a great event and will attract Camerons from all over the world. Already Camerons from New Zealand, Australia, North America and Europe have committed to coming across and joining other sept members at the Achnacarry event.
On Thursday, 30th July, there will be a series of walks of various difficulty on the estate. On Friday 31st, there will be talks on the culture of the Highlands and the history of the Camerons and the estate. That evening there will be a Reception in the Nevis Centre hosted by the Clan Cameron Association Scotland. On the Saturday, there will be a series of activites and events at Achnacarry including a march past of all the Cameron Branches throughout the world - a true homecoming. On Saturday evening, the Chief and his family are hosting a ceilidh featuring the best of local talent. On Sunday 2nd August, there will be a church service at the village church followed by a shinty match between the Camerons and the Frasers and a "Survivors' Barbeque".
Throughout the weekend the best of local produce will be featured. Many Camerons from throughout the world have opted to plant an oak tree at Achnacarry to mark the Homecoming. In time this "Clansmen's Oak Plantation" will be a symbol of coming together for all those who have chosen to come home this year. Further details from the website www.clancameron.org.uk
