Ceres Highland Games

Ceres Highland Games welcomes Homecomers to the oldest FREE games in Scotland, (there is no entrance fee and all funding for the event comes from voluntary support). Always held on the last Saturday of the month of June, (except for war) since the charter to hold the Games was given to the people of the village by Robert Bruce in 1314 in recognition of their support at the Battle of Bannockburn. Ceres Highland Games offers a truly unique spectacle of cultural, sporting and traditional Scottish entertainment.

Held in the Bow Butts, a natural amphitheatre with the Ceres Burn flowing by, there are track events, cycling, "heavy" events including caber tossing and the "Ceres Stane" along with Traditional Backhold Wrestling, Highland Dancing and Solo Piping competitions. A full Pipe Band starts the afternoon off by marching through the village to the games field to join the Chieftain when he officially opens the games. There are also side stalls, refreshments and a fun fair to while away a pleasant afternoon in the historic Kingdom of Fife.
