Borders Festival of the Horse
The sound of hoof beats will be heard all over the Scottish Borders, heralding the start of the 8th Borders Festival of the Horse from 15th-26th May 2009.
All aspects of equestrianism are covered in this unique Festival consisting of 40 events taking place over 12 days throughout the Borders area for both horse riders and spectators. There are 'try-your-hand' events, an art exhibition, stable visits, demonstrations and much, much more to enjoy with or without a horse. The Festival also promotes Kelso Races and Floors Castle Horse Trials. Exhilarating guided rides take place nearly everyday and warm hospitality can be enjoyed at the comfortable Horses Welcome B&Bs. www.horseswelcome.org
The Scottish Borders is renowned for having some of the best horse riding in Britain. Tracks once used by the marauding and pillaging reivers for stealing cattle, today provide peaceful ways to explore the rolling countryside on horseback and also by cycling and walking. As well as covering all aspects of equestrianism, this year's festival celebrates Borderers such as Mungo Park, Sir Walter Scott and other Great Scots who made their mark on the world.
