Homecoming Scotland 2009 celebrated the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns’ birth. We also celebrated some of Scotland’s great contributions to the world: golf, whisky, great minds and innovations and Scotland’s rich ancestry and culture.

Scotland’s Year of Homecoming enters its final month with a wide variety of inspirational, diverse and fun events running up to St Andrew's Day.


Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO)

The RSNO continues to celebrate Scotland's Year of Homecoming through performances with Scotland's classical superstar, Nicola Benedetti, and a St Andrew's celebration with Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham to end the year of festivities.

RACMSA Rally of Scotland: The final stage of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge
As part of Scotland’s Homecoming celebrations this inaugural event will take place in some of Scotland’s most stunning landscapes, historical locations and renowned motorsport stages. The rally action will commence at the beautiful venue of Scone Palace - the former coronation site of Scotland’s Kings and Queens - on Thursday November 19th for the Ceremonial Start and Special Stages ½. Other venue highlights include the Service Park at Blair Castle on Friday November 20 and the Ceremonial Finish at Stirling Castle on Saturday November 21. The spectacular route also features legendary stages, including Achray, Fairy Knowe and Loch Ard (the longest stage of the event at 35km), which return to the motor-sport calendar after almost two decades.

Homecoming Scotland Finale Celebrations
Stretched across the final weekend in November (26 - 30), there’s lots to see and do from gigs, concerts and ceilidhs; to fashion shows, fun runs, and fireworks; from banquets, Burns and pipe bands; to art, installations and exhibitions; parades, parties and debates. Enjoy a wide range of events across the weekend from the Highlands to Haddington, Dundee to Dumfries and many locations in between. Do something for St Andrew’s Day this Homecoming Year. St Andrews Festival 2009 - Scotland’s Celebration
Join us in the historic town of St Andrews to celebrate Scotland’s patron saint. An exciting mix of live music and drama against the dramatic backdrop of the UK’s largest series of Son et Lumiere. All culminating on St Andrew’s Day with the spectacular Torchlight Procession, Fireworks and Nae4Whimps Street Ceilidh.

Scots Trad Music Awards

Homecoming Live - The Final Fling
The vibrancy and passion of Scotland's music scene will be celebrated with a series of unique musical gatherings which will blend some of the finest musicians born in, and influenced by Scotland and its rich musical heritage. The gigs which will bring exceptional Scottish talent together for the first time will take place in Glasgow, UNESCO's recently named City of Music, in the SECC, Scotland's largest indoor venue and the spectacular Clyde Auditorium. From November 27-29 there's also a weekend of cutting edge gigs at the infamous King Tut's Wah Wah Hut.

Scottish Borders Hill Rally
The Scottish Borders has a long tradition of motorsport and looks forward to welcoming Homecoming enthusiasts back to the country’s only Cross Country forest stage rally. The event combines breathtaking stage tracks with exhilarating, high speed, adrenalin pumping motorsport rallying.

St Andrew’s ‘DO’
Edinburgh celebrates Scotland’s National Day and the finale of Homecoming Scotland 2009 with an exciting programme of events. Featuring traditional and contemporary live music and family entertainment, the St Andrew’s ‘DO’ events are free and everyone’s welcome! And don’t forget that many of Scotland’s visitor attractions will also open for free in celebration of St Andrew – castles, museums, gardens and abbeys across Scotland will take part including Edinburgh Castle (Nov 28-30) and family favourite Edinburgh Zoo (Nov 30).

Mackintosh 100
