Shetland Islands Homecoming Scotland 2009 Programme

Shetland welcomes all participants in Homecoming Scotland 2009. Closer to Norway than to Edinburgh, our islands offer a unique experience. Ice-sculpted, almost treeless landscapes and a dramatic coastline make for wonderful walking. Wildlife includes spectacular seabird colonies and an abundance of seals, porpoises and otters; you may even be lucky enough to spot an orca. Ashore, you can explore 5,000 years of human history and experience the dynamic culture of modern Shetland, one that embraces a centuries-old musical tradition as well as leading-edge art and design. These are islands that look and feel very different from Scotland.
Many events take place in Shetland during 2009, including the internationally-renowned Shetland Folk Festival (30 April - 3 May), the Johnsmas Foy (18-28 June), Creative Connections Shetland (3-9 August), Shetland Pony Festival (15th – 23rd August 2009) and the Shetland Fiddle and Accordion Festival (8-12 October).

If you can't make it to Shetland this year, or if you want to come back for more, please bear in mind that Shetland has its own Hamefarin (Homecoming) in 2010. You can find out more here.
