Canada Hill oil painting gifted to VisitScotland to promote Homecoming Scotland
To help in the promotion of Scotland's year of Homecoming, Artist Alma Wolfson has kindly gifted a painting that will be auctioned on the 23rd of January at the St Andrews Society of Toronto’s Burns Supper in CN Tower.
The painting is an original watercolour of Canada Hill on the Isle of Bute by the highly acclaimed Glasgow artist
Alma Wolfson.
The watercolour (shown below) is a perspective of Loch Striven and the Kyles of Bute from the vantage point where families gathered in the 1700s on the Isle of Bute to wave goodbye to friends and family emigrating to Canada from Scotland.

Bidding closes 8pm Friday 23rd January (Eastern Seaboard Time).
The successful bidder will be announced at the St Andrew’s Society of Toronto’s Aboon Them A’ Burns Supper, Friday 23rd January, CN Tower, Toronto.
Proceeds
All proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Burns 250 Collection, a fund-raising appeal by the National Trust of Scotland (NTS) for the conservation, care and exhibition of the 5,000 items that will be cared for in the new Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, Alloway (opening 2010). Priceless manuscripts, exquisite artefacts and rare memorabilia make the collection unique.
The Burns 250 Collection
The Burns 250 Collection has a target of raising £1million in 2009. The successful bidder for Canada Hill will receive a certificate with the EXCLUSIVE Robert Burns seal and a permanent named recognition in the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum (pictured below). If the bid is £5000 or more, the bidder will have the opportunity to be named conservator of an item of their choice from this unique selection. An expert NTS curator will assist you in identifying an appropriate range of Burns artefacts for this purpose.
