Moray

-Breathtaking countryside, stunning coastline and amazing history
Cold Gold Sunset credit Jim Robertson
Moray is home to the two giants of Highland Culture- malt whisky and salmon fishing, and it’s also blessed with some of the most stunning scenery in the country. The region takes in the fertile coastline around the Moray Firth, rising to the village of Tomintoul high in the Cairngorm National Park. Savour the flavours of Moray following the Malt Whisky Trail, fishing in the Rivers Spey and Findhorn, or following in the footsteps of Macbeth, Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Wolf of Badenoch.

Walk along miles of sandy beaches, play golf on Moray’s famed links courses, look for red squirrels in the ancient pine forests, or explore the region’s rich and varied heritage in the fishing villages along the Moray Firth Coast or the castles and museums inland. Moray is famous for its hospitality, and you will find a warm welcome, a cosy bed, good food and lots of things to see and do in this friendly and scenic region.

Homecoming in Moray

Moray is celebrating Homecoming with a range of large scale events from the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival in May to the Rail to Space programme in October, linking the birth of the Canadian Pacific Railway to Virgin Galactic’s space tourism project. In addition, Moray Connections is a programme of events and exhibitions celebrating the lives of people from Moray during the year of Homecoming Scotland 2009.

Do you have anything in common with the famous people who came from Moray- the good, the bad, and even the made up? Find out by tracing your family roots at a series of Family History Fairs.

Explore the Polish connections of Bonnie Prince Charlie, gaze at the eclectic souvenirs brought back from ‘Grand Tours’, or tap your toe to commemorate the life and fiddle music of William Marshall.

Keep up to date with our programme of events by visiting our Homecoming website www.morayconnections.com. You will find something for everyone, whether you live in Moray or are just visiting the area.
