MAGNERS GLASGOW INTERNATIONAL COMEDY FESTIVAL 2009

First headliners announced

The 2009 Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever before.  Already 3 of the top names of British comedy are confirmed with tickets going on sale for Rob Brydon, Ross Noble and Jimmy Carr at 9am on Friday 12 September.

Comedy luminaries Rob Brydon and Ross Noble will both be making their first appearance at the festival while regular and much loved favourite Jimmy Carr returns for his annual visit.

Rob Brydon will appear at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on the 12th of March.  The Welshman’s TV career in comedy includes the popular Gavin and Stacey, regular appearances on QI, Marion and Geoff, I’m Alan Partridge and the Keith Barrett Show.  Now this multi award winning writer/performer comes to the Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival with an evening of brand new stand up.

Also debuting this year is the master of live improv Ross Noble who will perform at the Theatre Royal on 20 and 21 March.

A festival regular and host of 8 Out of 10 Cats Jimmy Carr will be taking his new show Joke Technician to the stage of the Clyde Auditorium at the SECC for the last weekend of the festival (27 – 29 March).  Award – winning and chart topping his show is not to be missed.

As Jimmy explains,‘This show is exactly the same as last year’s except every single word.  It’s rude, crude and offensive but those aren’t the only reasons you’ll enjoy it.’

Tickets can be booked via the Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival ticket hotline 0870 013 5464 or online at www.secxtra.com.

Linda Allan, Festival Coordinator said:

‘Each year the event continues to grow and attract the top names in the world of comedy to Glasgow.  Such is the popularity and excitement around the festival that we are able to announce these names at this time.

Jules Macken, Magners GB Brand Manager, said:

‘As we enter the third year of our relationship with the Glasgow International Comedy Festival the event continues to grow and attract the top names in comedy.  It is testament to the success of the festival and the attraction of Glasgow as a city that these well-known names are making such an early commitment.

‘Since the introduction of this sponsorship, we have successfully worked hand-in-hand with the trade in Glasgow to grow the Festival and create a unique experience for audiences and the public at large.  In this year’s festival campaign we will continue to acknowledge and build on that.

‘In addition to heavyweight trade promotions and in-pub festival visibility our campaign will also include TV, radio and outdoor advertising around the city helping to encourage bigger audiences for what is the largest event of its type in Europe.’

The festival runs from Thursday 12 – Sunday 29 March straddling three weekends and the full programme to be launched in January 2009 will feature the best household names alongside local talent and up and coming stars of the future.

Visit the website at www.glasgowcomedyfestival.com and register for updates and show information.

The festival is also part of the Scottish Government’s Homecoming Scotland year in 2009 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns birth and will be programming specific events to link in with the Homecoming theme.

Festival organisers are also on the lookout for performers and venues who wish to be considered for the 2009 event so if you are interested in being a part of Europe’s largest comedy festival contact the office on admin@glasgowcomedyfestival.com
