Patrick Sellar
Patrick Sellar is brought to life at Burghead Visitor Centre, where you can find out about his roots in Moray and the part he played in forcing people from their homes in the 18th century.  But was he as bad as he is remembered?  Make up your own mind.

Bonnie Prince Charlie – the Scottish/Polish Connection
Bonnie Prince Charlie, the quintessentially Scottish hero, was actually born in Rome and brought up by his Polish mother. This exhibition of paintings, tells the story of the Scottish/Polish connections stretching back to the 17th century, when Scots moved to Poland as economic migrants, forming an interesting reflection of this century’s migrations. A programme of evening classes, workshops and cultural events shall accompany this exhibition.

For all the Tea in India
Tea was expensive and almost exclusively grown in China, until pioneers like Hugh Falconer introduced tea growing to India, opening up tea drinking to the masses. A contemporary of Darwin, he also contributed to Darwin’s theory of evolution whilst practising as a doctor for the British East India Company. Learn more at the

Home and Away
An interesting exhibition of fascinating curiosities and souvenirs collected during the 19th century, by adventurous Moray ‘loons’ while travelling and exploring in the rapidly developing British Empire.

William Marshall
William Marshall is one of Scotland’s most famous fiddle composers. Find out about his life in Fochabers during the 18th century and enjoy the unique opportunity to dance to a new piece of fiddle music created to celebrate his legacy.

A wealth of activities for all ages, including tracing your ancestry or the history of your house, local heritage talks and displays.

Cullen Town Hall
A festival of events, focusing on the local area 100 years ago, including family history displays, talks, talent contests and culminating in a musical evening for all.

Theatre

“Playing a round with Shakespeare” – was Shakespeare inspired to write “Macbeth” during a golfing visit to Forres with James the VI of Scotland? Watch out for details of this newly commissioned play in the Autumn.

Out of the Darkness Theatre Company will be bringing some of the famous people of Moray to life, working together with local schools to create short performance pieces, culminating in a grand performance in Elgin Town Hall in the autumn.
