Homecoming Scotland 2009

Homecoming Scotland 2009 has now finished.

Inspired by the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns, Homecoming Scotland 2009 extended an invitation to Scotland's people at home and abroad to reconnect with our great country. Throughout the year and across the country, more than 400 events provided a special Homecoming welcome. Thank you for your support.

'The Tree', by Michael Jeczelewski

The Tree by Michael JeczelewskiWhat inspired you to take this shot?
This photograph was taken when my fiancé and myself took advantage of a rare few days off for ourselves.  We set out for a walk in Aviemore on a perfect winters day at the end of December. The combination of winter sun and the incoming mist settling caused nature to form these distinct layers of light to form, in this area there is not another tree for miles so I just took my camera out and snapped away.

Why are you particularly proud of it?
Aviemore itself for me typifies Scotland - its mixture of sculptured  rugged landscapes  and outstanding natural beauty is not only one of Scotland’s most  beautiful spots  but possibly the most amazing landscapes worldwide.

What does this particular location mean to you?
Around 20 minutes after this photograph was taken I proposed so it not only do I think it is possibly one of the best pictures I have taken it means a lot to us both on a much more private level that is why I submitted the photograph as a token off how much she means to me.
