Homecoming Scotland 2009

Homecoming Scotland 2009 has now finished.

Inspired by the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns, Homecoming Scotland 2009 extended an invitation to Scotland's people at home and abroad to reconnect with our great country. Throughout the year and across the country, more than 400 events provided a special Homecoming welcome. Thank you for your support.

'The Storm', by Gary Buchan

What inspired you to take this photograph?
I was inspired to take the photograph because the weather was extremely wild,I like getting close to Mother Nature, without taking too many risks, and I love taking wild weather photographs, and we get plenty of days of wild weather here in Shetland.

The Storm, by Gary Buchan

Why are you proud of it?
I am proud of this image,as it depicts Shetland in Winter,Stormy,Wet and Wild. Also,I took the image without a tripod, and got the soft water effect I was looking for, despite the wind and the spray from the sea.

What does this particular location mean to you?
This location is at a place they call the Knab,a very tranquil walk of around a mile, this location is at the start of this walk,I am fond of this location because, its only around 150 yards from the first house I stayed in when I moved to Lerwick in the Shetland Islands in 1991.
