Where is East Lothian?
East Lothian is located in the South East of Scotland, neighbouring the capital city of Edinburgh. The award-winning coastline stretches along the southern edge of the Firth of Forth to the boundaries of the Scottish Borders. East Lothian is often referred to as Edinburgh's playground due to its close proximity to the city.

Welcome to East Lothian. Sshh... it's our little haven...
A warm welcome to East Lothian, a small county but with lots to offer visitors and residents alike.
The area's wild coastline, gently rolling countryside, picturesque towns, villages and famous golf courses, draws visitors from around the world.
The county is situated in the south east of Scotland and covers 270 square miles. The county is bounded to the west by Edinburgh, Scotland's Capital City, to the north by the Firth of Forth, and in the south by the Lammermuir Hills.
Forty three miles of magnificent coastline includes some of the finest beaches in Scotland. Inland, rich arable farmland lies in an open, gently rolling landscape. while to the south a string of unspoilt villages skirt the foot of the Lammermuirs - a popular haunt for hillwalkers and naturalists.
The county is home to 90,000 people and each year its population grows well above the national average - proof of the high quality of life enjoyed by its residents. Its principal towns are Haddington- a market town, Dunbar - the home of John Muir , the pioneer of conservation, Tranent, Prestonpans, North Berwick - where the award winning Scottish Seabird Centre is, and Musselburgh- where the world's oldest playing golf course is, Musselburgh Links.
East Lothian is an excellent base for exploring lowland Scotland and as Scotland's capital city, Edinburgh. There is an excellent range of accommodation from stately homes to beautiful self catering cottages, try your hand at surfing or watch the horse racing at Musselburgh Racecourse, visit the Concorde experience at The Museum of Flight, or take a boat trip to the Bass Rock. All this and its the sunniest place too!
East Lothian has a lot to offer with its history, traditions and attractions. But it is only a small part; to find out more pay us a visit in 2009. You will not be dissappointed.
