Aberdeen Homecoming Scotland 2009 Programme

City of Aberdeen Highland Games
Hazlehead Park, Aberdeen

10.00 to 5.00pm

The City of Aberdeen Highland Games has taken place for over 35 years and is held in the Games Field at Hazlehead Park. The Games are an integral part of the Grampian Games circuit under the auspices of the Scottish Games Association. The events delivers a traditional programme of Highland Games including heavy and light events, track and field events, dancing, pipe bands and solo piping. Family entertainment, a fun fair, demonstrations, trade and charity stalls, catering and beer tents also complement the Games.

Aberdeen International Youth Festival

The Aberdeen International Youth Festival is a unique platform for young talent and a celebration of youthful creativity and innovation. The Festival attracts an astonishing array of talent from across the world and offers you an unmissable chance to experience a range of high quality and diverse performances. Tartan Day 09

Visit Aberdeen on the first Sunday in August and join in Aberdeen's Tartan Day – a celebration of the rich colourful culture and heritage that exists in the region. From the sound of massed pipe bands, re-enactments, traditional music, family history, walking trails to a traditional Scottish market showcasing the best in local food, arts and crafts, Aberdeen's Tartan Day has something for everyone. Gordon Highlander's International Beating the Retreat
Sunday 02 August
Join the Gordon Highlanders for an International Beating Retreat, featuring some of the best pipers from around the world. The Retreat has origins in the early days of chivalry when beating or sounding retreat pulled a halt to the days fighting, a return to camp and the mounting of the guard for the night. Brought to Aberdeen's Tartan Day as part of the North East Clan Fortnight.
